Efficient Design and Analysis of an Ultra Wideband Planar Antenna with band rejection in WLAN Frequencies

An Ultra Wideband (UWB) antenna is proposed in this paper which covers the whole FCC UWB band from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz while filtering out the WLAN frequencies around 5.8 GHz. The antenna is a planar wineglass shaped slot antenna fed with a coplanar waveguide. The filtering property has been achieved by etching a semicircular parasitic slit on the excitation element of the antenna. The location of the slit has been optimized using a finite element high frequency simulator (HFWorks) to reject the WLAN frequencies. The final geometry plus the return loss and the radiation pattern of the optimized antenna are presented.
